Pak vs NZ ODI Series 2023 |
The schedule for the upcoming 5-ODI series in April 2023 has been decided upon by the Pakistan and New Zealand cricket authorities. The competition aims to make up for the September 2021 series that was postponed due to security concerns.
Lahore and Rawalpindi will host each of the series’ five One Day Internationals between Pakistan and New Zealand in 2023. The first ODI of the series 2023 will be played on April 26 at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, and the second ODI will also be played there on April 28. Following that, both teams will travel to Rawalpindi, Pakistan, for the final three one-day international matches, which will be played on May 1, May 4, and May 7, 2023.
Tom Latham will likely take charge of the Black Caps, and Babar Azam will likely serve as the team’s captain for Pakistan. Ben Lister and Cole McConchie, two potential debutants, will be part of the New Zealand ODI. Additionally, the 15-man roster includes additional opportunities for Chad Bowes, Rachin Ravindra, and Henry Shipley, who recently made their ODI debuts. An experienced core, which includes six members of the team that competed in the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup final, balances out those fresh faces.
In the ICC ODI team rankings as of September 2023, Pakistan is currently ranked fourth, while New Zealand is ranked second. As a result, there isn’t much of a gap between them, and Pakistan can compete fiercely because they will have the advantage of playing at home.
Pakistan has the advantage in head-to-head ODI matches against New Zealand, having won more of those matches. These statistics demonstrate that Pakistan has a higher winning percentage against New Zealand and their chances of winning the series will be greater. Both teams have played each other on the pitch 107 times, with Pakistan winning 55 times while New Zealand won 48 times.
They played their first ODI cricket match on February 11th, 1973 in Christchurch. Particularly in the 1990s and the early 2000s, Pakistan kept a commanding lead until 2003. In contrast, New Zealand completely outperformed this opposition in one-day international cricket after 2004, winning 24 games to Pakistan’s nine victories.
The majority of Pakistan’s runs come from its top two batters, but the team has typically avoided taking advantage of powerplay restrictions due to a conservative approach. The inability of the weak middle order to build upon the solid foundation laid by the upper-order hitters has only served to exacerbate their problems. Therefore, Pakistan needs to make progress in this area if it wants to compete with a powerful rival like New Zealand. The upcoming Pakistan vs. New Zealand ODI series in April 2023 will be highly entertaining for the fans of both countries to watch.
