The New Zealand Cricket Authority has decided and announced their schedule for the three-match ODI series between Pakistan and New Zealand in the year 2023. The 9th and 13th of January 2023 will mark the start and end of the Pakistan vs. New Zealand ODI series. The three ODI games in the series will be held in Karachi on January 9, 11, and 13, 2023. The Men’s Cricket World Cup Super League will host all three of the upcoming series between Pakistan and New Zealand’s one-day international games. It’s interesting to note that on February 11, 1973, Pakistan and New Zealand each made their ODI debuts.
Babar Azam, the current captain of Pakistan, is most likely to take over as team captain; Kane Williamson will be in charge of the Black Caps. Kane Williamson has a lot of experience as a captain who has the ability to turn the match at any time, despite the fact that the Pakistani captain currently holds the top spot in the ICC ODI player rankings. The Black Caps have already played 81 ODIs under the leadership of Kane Williamson, winning 41 of them while losing 37 of them. Babar Azam, on the other hand, has only served as captain for 18 one-day internationals, winning 12 and losing 5. These numbers proved that Babar Azam is a successful captain of Pakistan with a winning percentage of 69.44.
New Zealand is currently ranked second in the ICC rankings for the ODI team, while Pakistan is in fourth place. New Zealand and Pakistan have played each other in 107 ODIs, with 48 of those matches ending in victory for New Zealand against Pakistan and 55 ending in defeat, for an average winning percentage of 46.63. As of October 2022, New Zealand had played 13 ODIs, winning 9 of them while losing 4. The Black Caps have played in 788 ODIs overall, winning 263 games, losing 278 games, drawing 7 ties, and going scoreless in 40 games. Pakistan, on the other hand, has played in 945 matches, winning 498 of them, losing 418 of them, drawing 9 ties, and having 20 matches end in a draw.
The most recent time New Zealand visited Pakistan was in 2019 for a three-ODI series, but the series ended in a tie. Additionally, New Zealand visited Pakistan in September 2021, but the game was postponed due to security concerns. Therefore, it will be intriguing to see how New Zealand performs against Pakistan on Pakistani soil.
