AMC is the flagship property of AMC Networks, an American multinational basic cable television channel. The channel’s programming consists primarily of theatrically released films, with a small amount of original programming. The channel’s name originally stood for “American Movie Classics,” but the full name has been de-emphasized since 2002 due to a significant shift in its programming.
AMC was received by approximately 94,832,000 pay television households in the United States as of July 2015 (81.5% of U.S. households with at least one television set).
In March 2015, Dish Network’s Sling TV announced that AMC channels such as AMC, BBC America, IFC, Sundance TV, and We TV would soon be available to cord cutters.
