Sri Lanka VS Pakistan |
The Pakistani cricket team has been given the go-ahead to play Sri Lanka in a bilateral series of two tests in the month of July in Sri Lanka. For the Sri Lanka vs. Pakistan test series in 2023, Sri Lanka Cricket is prepared to welcome Pakistan. The three-day warm-up match, which will take place on July 11 in Colombo, will precede the start of the series. The next ICC World Test Championship 2023–2025, of which the Sri Lanka vs. Pakistan test series is a crucial component, will determine both teams’ standings on the leaderboard at the end of the series, hence the series will be crucial for both teams. Currently, Pakistan is at the number 6th position whereas Sri Lanka is holding the 7th position in the ICC Test ranking table.
The test series between Sri Lanka and Pakistan in 2023 will start with the first test match, which will be played from July 16 through July 20, at Galle International Cricket Stadium, before both teams move on to Sinhalese Sports Club to play the second test match on July 24, following the arrival of the Pakistani team in Sri Lanka.
Pakistan travelled to Sri Lanka in 2022 for a two-test series that resulted in a 1-1 draw in each game. Pakistan will be looking to duplicate their 2-1 series victory from 2015, but Sri Lanka will be hoping to exact retribution by defeating Pakistan in July.
The Pakistan test team, led by Babar Azam, will go to Sri Lanka with Grant Bradburn serving as their head coach. On the other side, Sri Lanka will battle Pakistan on the pitch under the direction of head coach Chris Silverwood and captain Dimuth Karunaratne. Babar Azam made his test debut on October 13, 2016, against the West Indies. Since then, he has made 2,851 from his 40 tests. Dimuth Karunaratne made his test debut on November 17, 2012, against New Zealand. Since then, he has played in 78 tests and contributed 5,768 runs with an average of 39.77.
Sri Lanka is currently in position 7 in the ICC test rankings, whereas Pakistan is currently in sixth. Pakistan and Sri Lanka have played each other 57 times in test cricket, with Pakistan winning 21 games while Sri Lanka has won 17, while 19 of the games between the two teams have been drawn.
Overall, as of July 2023, Pakistan had played in 451 matches, winning 146 of them and losing 139 of them while drawing 166 of them. Sri Lanka, meanwhile, had played in 311 tests, winning 100 of them while losing 119 of them, and drawing 92 of them. Therefore, it would be intriguing to see how Pakistan performs in Sri Lanka’s home stadium during the next SL vs. Pak test series in 2023.
