Starting on Saturday, the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Kandy
will host a three-game
Twenty20 cricket series
between hosts Sri Lanka and reigning world champions India.
The start time for all three Twenty20 matches between Sri Lanka and India is
7:00 PM IST. India has access to live streaming and broadcast.
More T20I Series
In his current role as head coach of the men’s cricket team in India, Gautam
Gambhir is making his debut with the series. In a prior role, Gambhir oversaw
the coaching staff of the Kolkata Knight Riders, who won the IPL in 2024.
The Indian Twenty20 team’s captain for their next trip of Sri Lanka will be
Suryakumar Yadav, not Hardik Pandya. Yadav has been named the ICC Men’s Twenty20 International Cricketer
of the Year twice. Last year, he captained India to a 4-1 triumph over
Australia in a Twenty20 series.
The vice captain will be Shubman Gill, who captained the Indian cricket team
to a series victory against Zimbabwe earlier this month.
Former world No. 1 T20 all-rounder Hardik Pandya, Rishabh Pant, Axar Patel,
Arshdeep Singh and Mohammed Siraj make their comebacks after missing out on
the Zimbabwe series.
Later in the three-match one-day international series, Indian cricket legends
Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will make appearances. Kohli withdrew from
Twenty20 international cricket following the success of the
Twenty20 Cricket World Cup 2024.
Sri Lanka have also announced a new captain. Charith Asalanka will lead the
hosts in the IND versus SL T20 2024 series after Wanindu Hasaranga stepped
away from the job following the T20 World Cup in June.
Asalanka captained Sri Lanka in two T20 matches against Bangladesh earlier
this year, winning once and losing the other.
Veteran wicket-keeper Dinesh Chandimal, meanwhile, is likely to play his first
T20I match since February 2022.
While pacer Nuwan Thushara injured a finger, another fast bowler Dushmantha
Chameera is suffering from pneumonia and a respiratory ailment. The duo have
pulled out of the series with Dilshan Madushanka and Asitha Fernando rostered
as their replacements.
In men’s T20 internationals, India have won 19 of their 29 encounters against
Sri Lanka. The Sri Lankan men’s cricket team has achieved nine victories while
one match terminated without a result.
The two sides last met in January last year at Rajkot. With an unbeaten
51-ball 112, Suryakumar Yadav led India’s 91-run win against Sri Lanka to
enable the Men in Blue claim the three-match series 2-1.
