During the first T20I match between India and West Indies at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy Stadium in Tarouba on 3 August, both teams were found to have maintained a slow over-rate during their bowling innings. As a result, they have been fined for the offense.

India was one over short of the required over-rate, leading to a five per cent reduction in their match fees. On the other hand, West Indies fell two overs short, resulting in a ten per cent deduction in match fees for their players.

The fines were imposed in accordance with Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which deals with minimum over-rate offences. As per this rule, players are fined five per cent of their match fees for each over their team fails to bowl within the stipulated time, with a maximum cap of 50 per cent of the match fee.

Both West Indies captain Rovman Powell and India captain Hardik Pandya accepted the offense, and an additional hearing was not required. The charges were brought by on-field umpires Gregory Brathwaite and Patrick Gustard, along with third umpire Nigel Duguid and fourth umpire Leslie Reifer.

In the first T20I match between West Indies and India, West Indies emerged as the winners by defending a target of 150 runs. India could only manage to score 145/9, falling short of the required total. With this victory in Tarouba, the hosts took a 1-0 lead in the five-match T20I series. The upcoming matches will be held in Guyana and Florida.
