Moeen Ali

Moeen Ali, an English all-rounder, repeated on Thursday that he is retired and will not be taking part in England’s upcoming tour of India.

Ben Stokes, the captain of England, asked the 36-year-old to come out of retirement after two years so that he may replace Jack Leach for the Ashes 2023.

However, Ali claimed that head coach Brendon McCullum made an effort to convince him to go on England’s tour to India the following year, where the all-rounder will be helpful due to the country’s spinning wickets and his quick scoring potential.

Ali, however, remained steadfast in his choice and turned down McCullum’s invitation to resume his retirement.

“They knew from the start,” Moeen said, laughing. “Especially when those India venues came out! Baz asked me again when I had my day off on the second day. I said no. I’m not going [to India]. There’s no way I’m going. That’s me done. It’s nice to finish like this and be part of an amazing day.”

“Test cricket is the best cricket,” Moeen added. “I wish I could rewind time. Although my career has been a bit up and down, I wouldn’t change it. I’ve loved it. I would have regretted it later in life. It was quite daunting because I’ve never done well against Australia.

“I still don’t believe I’ve done that well, but it was great to finish like this. It was daunting, but I had nothing to lose, it was a free hit. I had a call from Baz and Stokesy, I felt like I was bowling alright, but the finger was the only issue. I wasn’t worried about the bowling.”

Moeen Ali, born on June 18, 1987, in Birmingham, England, is a prominent cricketer known for his prowess as an all-rounder. A left-handed batsman and an off-spin bowler, Moeen made his international debut for England in 2014.

He quickly established himself as a key player in the squad with his elegant stroke play and his ability to contribute crucial wickets with his spin bowling. Moeen’s calm temperament and unassuming demeanor on the field have earned him admiration from fans and teammates alike.

Beyond his cricketing talents, he is also known for his charitable work and humble attitude, making him a respected figure both on and off the pitch. With his remarkable skills and consistent performances, Moeen Ali remains an integral part of England’s cricketing setup.

Moeen played his final match on July 27, 2023, against Australia at the Kia Oval. He made his Test debut in 2014 against Sri Lanka at Lord’s.

Ali was crucial to England’s victory in the 2023 Ashes. He helped with his bat by scoring 180 runs while also taking a total of nine wickets in seven innings.

It should be mentioned that the all-rounder has 204 off-spin wickets and a career average of 3094 runs in 68 Test matches.
