The Australian team will be the Indian guest in 2023, playing four Test match series, as announced by the Board of Cricket Control for India. The Border Gavaskar Trophy, which will be held in February and March 2023, will rekindle one of the world’s greatest cricket rivalries between India and Australia. The Indian cricket board has decided and confirmed the dates and venues for all of the test matches between India and Australia in 2023. The journey of the India vs Australia test series 2023 will begin with the first test in Nagpur at Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium on February 9, followed by both squads travelling to Delhi to play the second test at Arun Jaitley Stadium on February 17. Both teams have previously faced each other in Delhi in 2013 and 2008.
Following that, the third test of the series will be held on March 1 at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala. Dharamshala is a Himalayan Mountain town where the Australian captain met the Dalai Lama during a test match against India in 2017. The fourth and final test match of the series will be held at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad from March 9 to March 13.
When Australia travels to India, they will face India in what could be a major Test series, as Australia’s previous series triumph in India dates back to 2004-2005, making future trips relatively difficult for tourists. Given that the upcoming series is expected to be five games, the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in 2023 could be Australia and India’s final four-Test competition.
Australia last visited India for the Border Gavaskar Trophy in 2016/17, where they were defeated 2-1. The final Border Gavaskar Trophy was played in Australia in 2020/21, and Indian players once again performed admirably, winning the series 2-1. Since 2016, Australia has failed to capture and win the Border Gavaskar Trophy from India.
It’s worth noting that India won their first test series against Australia in 1979/80 in India after losing the previous six series. Let’s see what happens in the upcoming Border Gavaskar Trophy, when the two major test teams face off in the coming year.
