Popular Programs on Comedy Central:
Key And Peele (2012-2015)
Key and Peele is a sketch comedy classic that stars showrunners Keegan-Michael
Key and Jordan Peele as they banter together in front of a live studio
audience in between sketches of ridiculous scenarios, playing a variety of
characters that poke fun at cultural norms and contemporary racial tensions,
similar to Portlandia but with a different perspective.
The Daily Show (1996-)
The Daily Show, based on the Saturday Night Live skit “Weekend Update,”
satirises real-life news stories. After 21 years as host of The Daily Show,
Jon Stewart retired to take a back seat to all of the country’s insane
political missteps, a wise move to keep his sanity intact! The Comedy Central
giant is currently hosted by comedian Trevor Noah, who has received mixed
reviews from critics.
Stephen Colbert, John Oliver, and Samantha Bee all appear as correspondents
and have their own spin-off shows: The Colbert Report, Last Week Tonight With
John Oliver, and Full Frontal with Samantha Bee.
South Park (1997-)
It’s no surprise that South Park, the original adult cartoon created by Trey
Parker and Matt Stone, is rated as one of the top three Comedy Central shows
of all time, though most would expect it to be number one! South Park has
spent over 20 years fighting lawsuit after lawsuit while continuing to put out
relevant content that constantly pushes the envelope, and the powerhouse duo
continues to impress the masses.
Trey Parker and Matt Stone have undoubtedly created one of the most well-known
adult cartoons to date, but South Park offers more than just tongue-in-cheek
potty humour. The show combines an understated intellect with intentionally
scrupulous lessons delivered to the audience in an unconventional package.
South Park has an IMDb rating of 8.7, just shy of first place.
